Drum Club

Go deep into rhythm - live online with Simone

Saturday mornings 9:30am - 10:30am AEST • 4 weeks • $120

Next 4 week rhythm cycle starts:

July 4th -25th, $120

These magical journeys take you deep inside a complete West African rhythm. In each rhythm cycle we focus on a traditional or contemporary piece and explore compositions, arrangements, calls, breaks, and rhythmic variations.

One rhythm, on big bag of rhythmic joy to have fun with!

Examples of rhythms we have explored over the past few months: Dibon, Numun, Mamaya, Konden, & Lolo.

Going deep, doesn’t mean making it hard or difficult. In each class we learn and move through content as a group - then you have all week to watch the recording if you want to go over anything in your own time.

Simone is an expert

Simone is a patient and joy-filled educator and has been teaching weekly live online classes over 6 years.

She has mastered the art of teaching you so that you feel seen - it is as if we are in the classroom together.

I really want to compliment your teaching skills and style. You manage to teach, drum, and keep track of what we are all doing at the same time! Thank you!

What you get

Each 4-week cycle is a complete immersion in one West African polyrhythm. You will explore:

  • History and cultural info - where the rhythm is from, why it was played

  • Fundamental djembe parts

  • Calls and échauffements

  • Breaks and compositions

  • Solo phrasing and styles

When the rhythm cycle begins you will be sent the (Zoom) logins for the classes and a link to a dedicated website page/portal with links to the recordings as they become available. If you haven’t used Zoom before get in touch before the session and Simone will walk you through the steps to get you started. See below for an example of the student portal.

Not sure if drum club is right for you?

These classes are open to all levels, and work best for djembe players who have some familiarity with West African rhythms. You don't need to know how to play them, but it helps to have a rough idea of what calls, breaks, and rhythm sections are.

New to online learning?

If you have any questions, Simone is always happy to help, and she is always on hand for tech support if you need it. Simone will walk you through everything, including Zoom setup if you need it.

Your first online class can feel a little unfamiliar at first (a bit like walking into your first in-person class!). Once you are in and settled, it's almost as if you in the same room.

Next rhythm cycle starts July 4th and runs for 4 weeks. Fee: $120. drumwithSimone paid members use the promo code on the classes page for a 30% discount each cycle.
